3D Printing revolutionizes the way we prototype or develop products. Until recently, this technology was accessible only to the military and industry. Now, with low-cost desktop FDM 3D printers like the Enders, the limitations of what can you achieve relies on how you use it and your creativity. If you want to make most of this technology, an understanding of this topic is necessary. In this workshop, you will learn everything you need to understand your machine, how to operate it successfully and get you going so you can develop further your 3D Printing skills.

In this workshop, we will be exploring Cartesian, Delta, Core XY, and Mill Belt 3D Printers which includes most desktop consumer 3D printers available on the market today.

Workshop will be led by Alejandro Silva Au and Adam Boyea, 3D Fabrication Engineers at Fab Lab. Adam graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineer and Alejandro is currently finishing up a Masters in Mechanical Engineering at University of Texas at El Paso.

We will be covering the following topics in this workshop.
– How an FDM 3D Printer works
– Anatomy of a 3D Printer
– Materials that can be used and what environmental conditions matter
– Understanding accuracy and limitations
– Direct vs Bowden Extruder
– Slicing
– What is a Slicer
– Slicer options
– How to use a Slicer
– Most important Slicer settings
– From Slicing to Printing
– Safety measures
– What to 3D Print?
