This 1.5 hour workshop will teach the cultural origins of “Alebrijes,” a popular Mexican folk art that was recently featured in the hit Disney film “Coco.” Imagined in 1930 by paper mache artist Pedro Linares, the other worldly fantastical hybrid animals with brightly colored geometric patterns spread across Mexico and were then adopted by Oaxacan wood workers.
Using minor origami folds, participants will be guided in transforming 2D laser cut paper into 3D animal masks. Participants will then have the opportunity to unleash their wild side and personalize their masks with bright fluorescent colors inspired by designs shown throughout the evening.
We have four designs to choose from: bird, elephant, jaguar, or monkey. All supplies included.
Please let us know what mask you want in advance in the comments section during checkout. Otherwise, a randomized selection will be made.
