Ruby on Rails is powerful web application framework often used by technology startups because of it’s quick development cycle. Rails is the framework and is based on the Ruby server side programming language. Recently turning 10 years old, Rails remains relevant by incorporating cutting edge features like webpack, websockets, API mode and more.

Companies like Shopify, Soundcloud, Square, Heroku, Zendesk, Groupon, Crunchbase, Groupon, Bloomberg, Indiegogo, Airbnb and more trust Rails for parts of their technology stack. There are also multiple technology startups in El Paso using the framework and looking to hire.

In this course, you will walk through the process of building a web application from start to finish. That includes everything from setting up the local development environment to deployment into the cloud. We’ll learn how to write MVC (Model View Controller) applications with OOP (Object Oriented Programming). This course will integrate a realtime project that you can put use to build your portfolio.

  • Command Line interface
  • Git
  • Bitbucket (Similar to Github but with free private repos.)
  • Ruby
  • Ruby on Rails
  • Heroku
  • Amazon S3

The instructor for this course is Byrl Hunt Burdick. Hunt’s interest in programming started at age twelve with the Basic computer language. Later in high school, he learned web development and has been hooked ever since. He’s worked with creative agencies like Viva + Impulse Creative Co and most recently with the Silicon Valley cloud innovator Arista Networks as a software engineer building applications for large international corporations. Currently Hunt is CEO and lead engineer building web and native applications at the El Paso based startup Singulution Inc.
