Event Details

Using an education robot for beginners, this workshop makes teaching and learning robot fun and interactive. With just a screwdriver, the step by step instructions, programmable interface, different interaction settings, students can build a robot from scratch and experience the joys of hands-on creation. As they go, they will learn about a variety of robotic machinery and electronic parts, get to grips with the fundamentals of block-based programming, and develop their logical thinking and design skills.

Explore custom creations and imaginative play through custom build outs with LEGOs for our Battle of the Bots competition at the end of this 3-hour workshop.

Michael Nelson is a graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso with a degree and in Social Studies and Secondary Education. Since 2013 he has worked with Gifted and Talented program design and has served El Paso community youth through after-school programs, summer camps, hands on field trips, and competitions all designed around STEAM integration. Michael has also been a presenter at local and state educational conferences on various topics such as classroom activities, team-building, library makerspaces, and has trained teachers on the use of 3D printers, coding, and robotics.
