Fall 2022 – Spring 2023 Makerspace Field Trips
Unlock your students’ creativity with our specially designed Makerspace Field Trips for the 2022-2023 School Year. In celebration of the NASA Artemis Missions, and our designation as an official NASA Community Anchor Site, some of our content will be space themed! Bookings are available for Grades 3-12, Mondays to Fridays, with content and exercises differentiated for Grade Levels 3-5, 6-8, 9-12. Sessions and prices are per student.

One Giant Leap
Topic: 3D Printing, Modeling and Scanning
Grades: 3-5, 6-8, 9-12
Description:
As NASA prepares to send the first woman and person of color to the moon, we celebrate these role models in their advancement toward diversity, equity and representation for students in our community. Students will learn how 3D scanning, modeling, and printing are revolutionizing every industry across the globe, then use Meshmixer software to turn themselves into astronauts exploring the lunar surface.

Into the Metaverse
Topic: Virtual Reality and Technology
Grades: 3-5, 6-8, 9-12
Description:
As the popularity of virtual reality rises, the world in which we collaborate and socialize is rapidly moving into virtual space. From gaming to fashion to music festivals and beyond, the possibilities of creating within the Metaverse is limitless. Applying concepts of digital citizenship, digital ownership, and VR/AR technology, students will explore the Metaverse and design their ideal virtual learning campus.

A Trip to the Moon
Topic: Animation and Social Sciences
Grades: 3-5, 6-8, 9-12
Description:
Join us in celebration of NASA’s return to the moon and the 120th anniversary of the first sci-fi film, Georges Méliès’ “A Trip to the Moon,” by exploring the history of animation and filmmaking. Students will work in teams to brainstorm, storyboard, and utilize elements of storytelling to create a stop motion short film that is truly out-of-this-world!

Da Vinci’s CODE
Topic: Math, Art and Coding
Grades: 3-5, 6-8, 9-12
Description:
Mathematical concepts have been used as a tool to create works of aesthetic beauty including the Pyramids of Giza, the Mona Lisa, and beloved cartoon characters. Students will learn about the prevalence of number patterns in our universe and use makerspace tools such as straightedges, compasses and coding to unleash a new level of creativity that exists at the intersection of math and art.
