ZooM: 3-D Printed Lampshades by Michiel Cornelissen

ZooM-3d-printed-lampshade-Michiel-Cornelissen-2

The pentagonal lampshade by Michiel Cornelissen is kind of like flexible textile. ZooM is made up of hundreds of small, interlocking elements that join together to form spirals. The lamp is manufactured flat and assembled. You easily pull up on the center and the cone-like shade takes form. Pop in a simple cord and bulb socket and you have a functional lamp. Who doesn’t love flexible joints 3-D printed in place?

Digital Hunting with UK 3D Designer Dot San

8556326767_2e20af2cd1_o

These trophy head mounts, designed by Dot San from the UK, feature animal heads deconstructed to just their wireframe representations. They are then 3D printed to size by Shapeways and ready to be displayed by the rugged technocrat—or just anyone who appreciates ingenious, humane, digitally revolutionary design.

We had the pleasure of being in contact with the head designer of Dot San, Vijay P. who generously agreed to support our non-profit organization. We will be displaying some of his works at our fabrication space, so come hang out at our digital hunting lodge and think about what you want to design and 3D print.

Please check out Dot San store if you are interested!

Precision Milling Signs of the Times

Need an eye-catching way to promote your business? Maybe a commemorative plaque to celebrate a milestone event? How about just a thoughtful gift to a special someone?

Take a look at these gorgeous signs that people have designed and made on the Shapeoko Precision Mill, using a cutting dremel mount. You don’t need to spend a small fortune on custom signs and you don’t need to spend countless hours of your life painstakingly hand-carving (though we’d always keep a secret, of course.)

Exocarp Chair by Guillermo Bernal

Exocarp_01

Digital fabrication designer Guillermo Bernal holds an architecture degree from Pratt but spends his day cranking out complex and fascinating work using his specialties of parametric design.  The chair is made using algorithmic design and a 3-axis CNC mill on three sheets of birch plywood. The results show incredible amounts of texture and dimension without even having to touch it.bernalcncmillchair
