Getting Ready for a Summer of Making!

DSC01700

Thanks to Maker Media and Google+ for selecting Fab Lab El Paso as a local campsite for Maker Camp 2014. We are busy preparing for the start of Maker Camp on Monday after the July 4th weekend. We have lots of DIY electronics for kids to make some awesome project with as well as instructional books in addition to the wonderful Google+ Hangout instructional videos from professional Makers which we will be watching together. First week will be kicked off with Makers in Motion.

Be it by land, sea, or air, makers are always moving, using the things we build to propel ourselves forward with the power of our imaginations. Being a part of Maker Camp means you’re on the move as well, and it’s no coincidence we’ll be launching this awesome summer-long journey from the spaceport to the future, the New York Hall of Science.

Field Trip Friday to Google Treks at 11am Pacific time on July 11th. Please register for the camp here. $75 for a week, 5 days, 3 hours a day starting from noon. Full 6 weeks is $350. The fee is to cover cost of instruction, materials, and supervision.

Looking forward to meeting some young makers soon!

Theo Jansen inspired Strandbot and Lego Strandbeest

Scuttle, scuttle, scuttle. Check out these awesome bots and walkers inspired by Theo Jansen’s Strandbeests. Both these projects come with a bill of materials and full assembly instructions. The LEGO ® Walking Machine by Jason Allemann is a post apocalyptic trading ship that walks on mechanical legs. The Strandbot by Gustavo Arriaga  is a programmable, remote-controlled (as opposed to wind-powered) pet you can make to roam around your room.
