We provide training with specialization in digital fabrication for educators and specialists
3D Models Module
Each session is a highly interactive, step-by-step workshop that introduces basic 3-D modeling terminology, concepts and tools used to create simple buildable models and useful everyday shapes in beginner-friendly program TinkerCAD and intermediate-advanced program like Autodesk Fusion 360. At the end of this training program, trainee will gain skills to model a 3-D print-ready object.
3D Printer Module
This session will focus on 3D printers as educational tools for rapid prototyping. This training module includes an in-depth coverage of 3D printers—from techniques to application. Covering a variety of different 3D printing technologies, the focus will be on FDM 3D printers, which is what most schools employ. At the end of this workshop, trainees will have comprehensive knowledge of 3D printing technologies and best practices for educators to maintain and develop projects for these machines.
Coding Module
Scratch, developed at MIT, is a fun tool for introducing beginners to creating animations, games, instruments and other interactive multi- media projects. It is an exciting program through which one can explore and demonstrate their creativity. Scratch is a visual programming interface based on the computer programming language Python and builds great foundations for more advanced computer science lessons.
Robotics Module
Our robotics training offers comprehensive guidance and support for educators looking to integrate robotics into on-going STEM school initiatives and curriculum. Through comprehensive hands-on exploration of modular robotics kits such as LEGO Mindstorm, TETRIX, VEX, and EZ- Robot, trainees will be able to decipher the best hardware, software, and practices to accomplish individual goals.
Lasercutting Module
Vector line drawing is an adaptable and fun approach to illustration resulting in clean, clear designs that are suitable for cutting or milling. This course takes you step-by-step through the process of creating a line art design suitable for laser cutting. The topics covered include drawing freestyle and photo-based vectorization, building simple and more complex illustration, and shape building.
CNC Machining Module
Woodworking is made easier, safer, and more efficient with CNC routing machines. There are different techniques for making press-fit joints for custom assemblies, which will be explored in this workshop. Press-fit construction is also known as interference fit or friction. The pieces must fit together without using glue, nails, screws or other fasteners. In this project-based workshop, the participant will design and fabricate a simple piece of furniture (i.e. small bookshelf, chair, or side-table, etc…)
3D Scanning Module
Capture the world in 3-D! Come make a 3-D scanned model of an object or person for 3-D printing. Join us as we explain the mechanisms capturing full body 3-D scans using the Structure Sensor. Learn to set up objects or persons for 3-D scanning, including factors such as lighting and posing. Learn how to generate and prepare the scanned models for 3-D animation or 3-D printing. Trainees also learn about Meshmixer and MeshLab, two programs used to modify, remix, and customize 3-D scanned models.
Zero to Maker
This module will cover a general discovery and exploration of the different technologies that are available at the Lab, including 3D printers, laser cutters, 3D scanners, virtual reality systems, electronic bench, and CNC routers. Trainees will also receive extensive background information on the Fab Lab Network, based out of MIT as well as the global “Maker Movement” and open- source movement through a powerpoint presentation highlighting keystone projects.
